Doug Bruno Camp Description

Coach Bruno directs all camp teaching drills and with his staff demonstrates the 10 ingredients to becoming a player. Furthermore, Coach Bruno will communicate his philosophy for academic and athletic success through goal setting, how to acquire time management skills and by encouraging campers to pursue their passions in life.

Fundamental Teaching Camp

This camp offers an opportunity for all athletes, regardless of age or ability level, to participate in an exciting week of basketball training and game participation.

To maximize learning, all campers are evaluated and placed within groups of similar ability, regardless of age. Throughout the camp week, campers may transition to another group level, should their talent dictate.

Fundamentals Teaching Camp Details

These camps are designed to increase each camper’s knowledge of the game, develop personal skill levels and teach techniques for improvement of each camper’s game. Each day revolves around seven areas of concentration:

  1. Individual Skills: shooting, dribbling, passing, ball handling, rebounding, defense and individual offensive moves
  2. Offensive/defensive demonstration and technique
  3. Offensive Moves: in triple threat, on the dribble, without the ball, and in the post
  4. Team Skills: team offense/defense, rebounding/blocking out, and movement without the ball
  5. Game Competition: three-on-three and regulation full-court, officiated games
  6. Demonstration Game
  7. Team practices

PLEASE NOTE:

Arrival Time – First Day of Each Session

Camp check-in will begin at 8 AM on the first day of camp. Our program will start at 9:30 AM in the gym. Please be dressed and ready to play. Late arriving campers should report to the gym. If your athlete will not arrive during the 8 AM – 9:30 AM registration period, please notify the Bruno Camp Office of the athlete’s expected arrival time (1-800-645-3226). A lunch will be served that first day.

Departure Time – Last Day of Each Session

All parents are welcome to watch the all camp tournament taking place between 3 PM and 6 PM on the final afternoon of camp. Preliminary games will be played at 3 PM, 4 PM, and 5 PM on three levels College, ABL, and WNBA. During this time campers will also have a chance to pack up their rooms and check out. The final two teams for each level will play championship games at 6 PM.

All parents, family members and friends are invited to our special parents’ program with camper participation at 6:30 PM on the final day of each camp in the Res Rec Center. Our awards ceremony and program will conclude by approximately 7:15 PM.

Shooting Camp

After 40 years of conducting camps, numerous campers and coaches report Coach Bruno’s shooting lectures and drills are a highlight of their camp experience, having seen much more immediate improvement from the shooting philosophies taught by Coach Bruno. Featuring demonstrations, hours of individual instruction, drills and competitions, the following will be taught: Jump Shots, Free Throws, Stick It’s.

Shooting Camp Details

Featuring demonstrations, hours of individual instruction, drills, and competitions, the following will be taught:

  • Jump Shot
    • fundamentals and techniques
    • on move off pass
    • on move off dribble
  • Free Throws
  • Stick its
    • Lay ups (right and left)
    • Power Lay ups (right and left)
    • Baby Hook shot (right and left)

This camp is open to all athletes, regardless of age or ability level. To maximize learning, all campers are evaluated and placed within groups of similar ability, regardless of age.

As this is a great supplement to our Fundamental Teaching Camp, numerous campers will choose to register for both sessions (Fundamental and Shooting). In doing so, we can accommodate campers the night between sessions*, this saving Mom and Dad the extra trip of packing up, returning and unpacking.

* an additional fee of $25.00 will be added to the athlete’s tuition for the extra night of room and board. In these cases, campers will be assigned the same room for both camps.
